Cleaning Gutters

Keeping gutters clean and unclogged by leaves and debris can prevent serious water damage to your home as clogged gutters and downspouts lead to dam-ups in the drain outlets with rainwater filling up and then overflowing. This leads to gutters pulling loose from their mountings while the water itself pooling for long periods of time will  rust metal gutters. But more dangerously, the over-flowing water runs down building walls and saturates all materials, seeping inside and causing more damage to windows, walls, doors, foundations, sidings – and even flooding basements.

Regular routine of cleaning can easily prevent any problems, as well as maintaining an attractive appearance for your house. This task can be done yourself but only if the roof is easily accessible and you can work safely from a ladder. If your house is higher than single story or access is difficult, it is far better to hire a professional.

Checking Your Gutters
In general, gutters should be checked and cleaned twice a year, in spring and autumn, although if your roof is directly beneath many trees, you may need to do this more often. If you live in cold climates, it is essential to make sure that your gutters are clean before winter arrives as any water pooling in gutters will freeze and turn into a heavy block of ice. This in turn inhibits any further flow of water as well as putting massive downward pressure on the gutter, forcing it away from its mountings. Any water coming off the roof will therefore pour down between the roof and gutter, saturating the building walls and sidings on its way down. The signs of a clogged gutter to watch out for are:
  • Mounds of leaves and debris visible and spilling over the gutter.
  • Gutters with black streaks down the sides
  • Gutters pulling away from their mountings
  • Splashes of soil on the building walls.
  • Deep holes in the soil directly beneath a downspout.
  • Rotting wood, especially in the corners, under a gutter by a downspout.

GutterStuff® is an easy, gutter filter that is both affordable and invisible and eliminates dangerous and dirty gutter cleaning.  GutterStuff® seals out leaves and allows large volumes of water to flow through quickly.  No other gutter cover, screen or guard system works as effectively or as economically to keep debris from entering your roof gutters.  GutterStuff® is made from durable polyether outdoor foam that is lightweight and will not dent, bend, crumble, or lose its shape.

  • Fits completely inside any 5-inch K-style gutter, the most common style/size on the market today.
  • The filter comes in 4-foot sections.
  • Prevents mosquitoes from breeding in the gutter since there is no standing water from clogged gutters.
  • Has a protective Ultra Violet (UV) coating to protect from the sun.
  • Germicide protection to prevent the growth of moss.
  • Treated with a fire retardant compound.
  • Gutter Stuff is backed by a five year performance warranty.

Rain Flow Total Gutter Protection is a system that fills the entire gutter opening so that nothing but water can get in. When Rain Flow is installed, rainwater passes easily through the material and quickly flows to the downspouts. Leaves, spinners, pine needles, twigs and other debris stay on top but don’t impede the flow of water. Because air flows both under and over the debris, it dries quickly and blows away on the next breezy day. Shingles are never touched, so roof warranties are not voided. Birds, hornets or bees can’t get in and build a nest, which happens with many of the metal covers. No color matching is necessary.

No Damaged Shingles Contractors: You don't lift the shingles to install Rain Flow.

Permanent All Weather Protection Rain Flow’s™ patented material is not affected by changing weather. From hot summer sun to winter snow and freezing ice, Rain Flow™ protects gutters from clogging year-round.

Invisible From the Ground Rain Flow can't be seen from ground level. Unlike metal covers or screens. Rain Flow does not require color matching to shingles, gutters or trim and doesn't change the appearance of the home. Rain Flow™ works with any roof from flat to 16/12 pitch.

Self Cleaning Rain Flow washes clean with every rainfall. It is tough, nonabsorbent and dries quickly. Shingle grit and other small debris pass through easily.
